What Is a Hooded Blanket? Names, Styles and Sizes Explained
A hooded blanket is an oversized blanket you wear. It has a hood, wide sleeves and usually a big front pocket, so you can pull it on like a hoodie and still feel wrapped up like you are under a blanket. It is made for slow evenings on the couch, movie nights, reading, working from home or sitting outside after dark.
One idea, lots of names
You will see the same thing sold under a few different names. They all describe a wearable blanket with a hood and sleeves:
- Hooded blanket: a blanket with a hood and sleeves added.
- Blanket hoodie: a hoodie made as big and soft as a blanket.
- Hoodie blanket: the same thing, with the words swapped.
- Wearable blanket: the wider name for any blanket you can wear, with or without a hood.
So if you are wondering whether a blanket hoodie and a hooded blanket are different, they are not. The name changes, the idea stays the same. At Hoodie Haven we call ours Havens.
What makes a good hooded blanket?
- Two soft layers. Every Haven has fleece outside and soft sherpa inside.
- A roomy hood. Big enough to pull up over your head when you want to hide away.
- Wide sleeves. Room to move your arms, hold a book or a hot drink.
- Pockets. Our classic pull-over and Youth styles have one large front kangaroo pocket. Starry Elegance has two front pockets, and so do Zip Havens, which have a single full-front zip.
- An oversized fit. Loose enough to tuck your knees up inside.

Length is the biggest choice. All of our lengths are measured from the shoulder.

Pull-on or zip?
Most hooded blankets pull on over your head, just like a hoodie. If you would rather step in and zip up, a Zip Haven has a single full-front zip. Our zip vs pullover guide explains the difference.
Is a hooded blanket the same as a dressing gown or robe?
Not quite. A dressing gown or robe usually opens at the front and ties with a belt. A hooded blanket pulls on, has a bigger hood and is thicker and looser.
